When I started using mindset work with my students, it was with the intention of helping them overcome roadblocks In learning without shutting down. It’s been 4 weeks and the first test was given and turned back to the kids. In the past I’ve dreaded the days when I return tests. The discussions with the students felt like arguments over points rather than exploring the concepts they didn’t yet master. The intention of learning felt lost in the pursuit of the highest grade.

This time, though? It was a COMPLETELY different experience. As I handed back the tests, the questions I heard made my teacher heart soar:

”I thought I understood this concept. I wonder what I need to work on?”

”Miss, what piece of information do I need to learn more about to help me understand better?”

Curiosity. Inquisitiveness. Ownership.

These are values we constantly strive to instill in our students. The problem is that WE can’t instill the values, they must learn and build them. This is one MASSIVE step in the right direction.
